For 14 months, the pandemic forced our world to go dark. Knowing the amazing energy we felt at the end of our show at Southend in March 2020, it felt like our world had ground to a halt. This was pain, not only felt by us but every single person involved in the arts around the world.
But we did not take the time out to feel sorry for ourselves. Each Devout member pulled together to see what we could do to improve, innovate and enlarge our show so that, when the time came, we’d be ready, bigger and better than before. And we worked hard.
Therefore, when the opportunity arose to test out our new show in Colours at Hoxton, we grasped at the opportunity.
The evening performance quickly sold out and we were buzzing, waiting to unleash our new visual and audio experience on some very hungry Depeche Mode fans.
We are happy to say that they were not disappointed and neither were we. Although the atmosphere was more restrained than what we were used to, the amazing and appreciative crowd were with us from the first note to the last. Not only did we get to play new songs in the set, but we also treated the audience to a plethora of bespoke projections we had filmed. This was all received to a rapturous reception.
One gig goer commented: “Such a great night! Was meant to see the Devout back in April last year but was postponed due to covid, so this was my first time seeing them, and I was very impressed! The band members all pulled off their original DM characters really well, especially Martin with his solo performances. The songs were unmistakable yet with a slight twist, and the added video backdrop was a great feature! Perfect little venue for this sit down event, and a nice warm up for the main event in October, which will hopefully be a proper concert… Band members were all very approachable afterwards and happy to hang out and chat. Highly recommended!”
Another said: “I know we’ve been in lockdown so might be starved of live
music lol but this was a great night at a great venue with an excellent band….
Everything about this night was a joy.”
And now our attention turns to August. In Glasgow. Where we finally get to unleash our Violator show to kick start our tour once again.
We can’t wait.
